Very much enjoy The History of Byzantium podcast and website. I like the maps on the site and the ability to buy special episodes from the site.

I wish there was an easier way to get to specific episodes, or at least specific maps. Still, the site is so much better than many similar podcast websites. The podcast itself is great, too.

It's so amazing that we have the opportunity to listen to so many years of history is such a fine detail. It's a marvel of the modern world. Thanks for doing this, Robin!

I heartily agree with the reviews on this podcast series left so far by other listeners. I've not yet listened to Mike Duncan's History of Rome podcast (though I'm now inspired to do so), but the History of Byzantium podcast is a tour de force from Robin. He has done a sterling and balanced job with the sometimes disappointingly thin written and archaeological sources. Spread across a millennium; ranging across a staggering (and to me often unfamiliar - the maps really help!) geographical spread; with a bewildering cast of external foes, internal factions/assassinations/machinations; and competing theological positions, Robin has nevertheless contrived a coherent and enthralling story. His narrative style is relaxed, clear, engaging and uses humour well. Brilliant effort!

Dear Travelzoo,

This is a love letter. Are you beautiful? Mmmm... you're pretty but let's not be hyperbolic and say you're gorgeous. I mean, you're definitely not fugly or anything! (4 stars!) You could try a little harder but we all know that it's what's on the inside that counts....

Very bad game to use, players very racist, abusive and the admin favours the violent players over anyone, changes that are made also dictated by the violent players. This game is a mess, not worth the time to play.

Such a fantastic podcast!
Duncan has a knack for narrative history, taking all the disparate stories and facts and weaving it all together into a story that's fun and engaging.
It's also very well researched.
Would highly recommend to anyone with an interest in history.
