Webcomics , Comedy

xkcd is a webcomic created by Randall Munroe. The comic's tagline describes it as "a webcomic of romance, sarcasm, math, and language." Munroe mentions on the comic's website that the name of the comic is not an acronym but "just a word with no phonetic pronunciation". The subject matter of the comic varies from statements on life and love to mathematical and scientific in-jokes. Some strips feature simple humor or pop-culture references. Although it has a cast of stick figures, the comic occasionally features landscapes, intricate mathematical patterns such as fractals (for example, strip No. 17 "What If" shows an Apollonian gasket), intricate graphs and charts, or imitations of the style of other cartoonists (as during "Parody Week").

xkcd is available under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 2.5 License. New comics are added three times a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, although on some occasions they have been updated every weekday.

Since July 2012, there has been a branch of xkcd called "xkcd What-If", updated every Tuesday. These attempt to answer unusual reader-submitted science questions in a humorousóthough mathematically soundóway, in a format more like an article rather than a traditional comic strip.

The sheer effort and detail this guy pours into his webcomic is incredible. He does SO MUCH research, and puts SO MUCH thought into his bigger efforts, that you can literally spend hours diving into them.

And in between, he's just got hilarious ideas and great writing. What's not to love?

Deep thoughts from stick figures. A study in both the existential and crude. Scientific dissections, social commentary, misnomers, humor, and heartbreak.

Do yourself a favor and visit.

Ok. I can't really say enough about Yelp being an internet bully especially when it comes to smaller businesses. I understand that you have to keep a site moving by having advertisements and what not. But when it comes to small business owners wanting control over their own yelp page and web pr...

Such a fantastic podcast!
Duncan has a knack for narrative history, taking all the disparate stories and facts and weaving it all together into a story that's fun and engaging.
It's also very well researched.
Would highly recommend to anyone with an interest in history.

I think the site looks dull now. I hope it evolves into more modern design. And also consider user experience.

I heartily agree with the reviews on this podcast series left so far by other listeners. I've not yet listened to Mike Duncan's History of Rome podcast (though I'm now inspired to do so), but the History of Byzantium podcast is a tour de force from Robin. He has done a sterling and balanced job...

I have found the History of English podcast absolutely riveting; in fact, I 'binged- listened' my way through the first 100 or so episodes, and am very relieved that there are clearly many more to come :-). History via etymology - a great concept, well-delivered by Kevin. Highly recommended.
